Key Statistics Insights:

1. Losses dominate more than profits

Although there is 100 pips gap between the average winning trade (300 pips) and losing one (200 pips), the win rate is so poor (only 24%) that monthly results are net losses for 12 consecutive months in a row, while the best month resulted in losses as well (-350 pips). Thus, the edge of this strategy does not show any effect as the ratio of losers is extremely high and kills all the potential gain.

2. It takes more than 3 winning trades to cover bad day(s)

Given that the average loss per trade is 200 pips and the channel generates up to 3 signals a day, a couple of bad days can completely offset the weekly profit. As the average loss per week is 300 pips, it will take 4-5 successful deals (300 pips each) to compensate for the weekly losses – yet, due to the hit rate of 24%, such streaks do not occur too often.

3. Even though the worst deal is not much worse than the average one

There is an interesting feature of this strategy – its worst deal in the course of one year is -215 pips, which is pretty close to the average loss per trade of -200 pips, which means that the risk is quite well controlled, however, losses occur too often (every 4th trade).

4. Holding time is the killer of the system

As the average holding time per trade is 8 hours, it means that there is always a chance that the position will fall victim to at least one session reversal during the trading process. The statistics prove that even in case the trade goes in the right direction, the profits do not exceed 312 pips – thus, the strategy gives away profits during long holding times. Most of the worst losses occurred because traders held positions too long in the course of news events or US Dollar strength.

The Bottom Line

After 12 months of analysis, the results of the trading at Gold Sniper are obvious – the channel is losing money and therefore needs to be ignored.

It might seem at first sight that the indicators look good. The channel managed to gain quite a big audience of over 118 thousand subscribers, it trades at the most active part of the day (London trading session), its main asset is Gold (XAU/USD) – an easy to trade and volatile currency. The average profit is about +300 pips, the maximum loss is limited to -200 pips. This provides a nice 1.5 reward-to-risk ratio.

But numbers don't lie, and in fact, they paint quite another picture.

Win rate is just 24%, which means that 3 trades out of 4 are losing ones. It is this low efficiency, that negates all the positive aspects of the reward-to-risk ratio. During the year, the channel lost more than -16,000 pips, having negative result in all 12 months. The best result was achieved with a -350 pips loss and the worst – with more than -2,100 pips monthly loss.

The worst thing in all this is the regularity of the losses. With the average weekly loss of approximately -300 pips, the channel makes your account suffer constantly, without any sudden blowouts. The biggest single loss was only -215 pips, that proves that the risk management is decent, but when you lose 76% of all your trades, small losses become a major problem.

One more point against the channel is the 8 hours average holding time. Trading sessions last for a long time and therefore give opportunity for multiple changes and important news, but in fact, winning trades are rarely more than +312 pips.

Our Rating: Bad

Final verdict: Gold Sniper has good risk management and a solid base of followers, but the trading strategy itself doesn't work. Math doesn't add up. If nothing changes in this situation – if either win rate goes up significantly or the average winning trade becomes substantially larger – following the channel will result in constant losses.
