Key Statistics Insights:

  1. The Reward-to-Risk Mirage

First, while the seemingly impressive 1.55 reward-to-risk ratio hides an illusory appearance of a robust strategy, the channel breaks even only with 39.2 percent winning trades. Given that the channel produces only 29 percent winning trades, the gap between break-even win rate and real win rate amounts to more than 10 percentage points, indicating guaranteed financial loss regardless of the quality of each particular trade management.

  1. The Certainty of Negative Expectancy

Since all signals have negative expectancy equaling minus 23.3 pips, this implies that the signals' win rate of 29 percent and losing rate of 71 percent result in averaging 140 pips per winning trade and minus 90 pips per losing trade. Given that, over 183 signals annually, the channel should produce a negative expectancy of minus 4,264 pips, which corroborates the simulated overall negative outcome of minus 4,831 pips and confirms the validity of simulated variance of returns rather than exaggeration.

  1. The Best Trade Cannot Rescue the System

Even though there was one trade during the year earning plus 218 pips, it was easily offset by a high frequency of losing trades. The channel has 2.45 losses per every winning trade; moreover, for each outstanding winning trade, the channel offers, on average, seven average losing trades resulting in overall losses equal to minus 630 pips. Thus, even the best trade made in the course of one year could be offset by just three regular losses, which renders profitable trading mathematically impossible due to a higher frequency of losses.

  1. The Predictable Path to Account Blowout

A weekly average loss of minus 93 pips indicates a calculable time necessary to ruin the account of a retail trader. If a retail trader operates a $2,000 account and trades 0.1 lots of Gold, then s/he loses approximately $93 weekly. Consequently, in less than five months the account gets depleted. Even at $5,000, a trader gets his/her account depleted within approximately eleven months. With more than 62,800 subscribers and six years on the market, capital destroyed over those years amounts to $1.8 billion.

The Bottom Line

In operation for six years and boasting an impressive 62,000 subscribers, Rio Traders presents themselves as experienced swing traders specializing in trading Gold when the market is active in Asia and London sessions. On the contrary, the real numbers tell a completely different story.

Given the statistical facts that Rio Traders only achieves a 29% win rate and that their average loss amounts to 90 pips, compared to a winning trade of 140 pips on average, the mathematical expectancy of every signal posted by Rio Traders stands at negative 23.3 pips, indicating that this system will ensure a consistent depletion of your trading account's balance. Over a one-year period, our simulation using the exact numbers presented by this channel resulted in an aggregate net loss of 4,831 pips out of 183 signals traded, or an average of 93 pips lost per week.

Assuming a trader using a $2,000 account to trade 0.1 lots of Gold, following Rio Trader's signals would result in a full account blowout within just five months from now. Moreover, even their highest winning trade this year at 218 pips is nullified by less than three average losing trades. Since the number of losing trades far outweighs the winning ones, there is no possibility of any financial recovery from this system.

Although the ratio between the amount gained versus lost per trade may seem favorable with the ratio standing at 1.55, a break-even ratio of 39.2% is required for the system to work effectively. Rio Traders fails by more than ten percentage points.

Our Rating: Bad

Verdict: Rio Traders - Forex Signals is a bad signal provider with low chances of success. Rio Traders' system is a mathematically losing system that hides behind the large number of subscribers and six years of operation. In reality, traders would find it wiser not to follow this system, as doing so would only cause guaranteed money loss. Based on the 62,000 subscribers, it is estimated that Rio Traders has made investors lose more than 1.8 billion dollars through their operations.
